Ok guys,
I'm looking for some support for the rear of my truck. I'm currently carrying around about 2000lbs of stereo equipment. What I'm looking for is some air bags to bring the life back to the rear of the truck. What brands are you guys using when towing those big loads. thanks, Bill

If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

A cheaper alternative may be an add-a-leaf. Especially if you carry that load all the time.

Yep. Bottoms out once in awhile too.
Add a leafs might be a way to go too... I hope to not carry the weight other then going to shows but, it seems that I have had one every weekend. We will be going back to KC in Nov. for the world finals so I got to get something before then.

My vote goes for air-bags, too ... but maybe the other brand. The problem with helper springs is the rear suspension will remain quite firm once the load is removed. At least with air-bags, you can adjust the resistance relative to the load on that axle.

But can he still have your RR if he used Firestone Ride-Rites? I thought those didn't play together well?

With Ride-Rites on 4WD models, the selection of which style of radius-rods (RR) is narrowed down to GEN-I only. With other air-bag brands (brand names escape me as I write this ... Air-Lift?), users can also consider the GEN-III and GEN-IV style of RR. The original question above didn't address RR or a situation where RR would be much help, so my reply excluded bringing them up in the conversation. |

After looking around a bit, it seems that the bags are the way to go. It will take the extra weight off the springs. Looks super easy to install too. Anyone know where I can get a killer deal?

Definitely the Firestone. I just put some on about a month ago. I got them on the internet for $238 shipped but I don't recall the site. Do a google search and shop around.
The bags took about an hour to install.
One tip that I quickly learned: Use some twine to collapse the bags. They are then much easier to get in place and aligned. Of course cut the twine after the bolts are in place. |
