I chose the Walker BTM for the better performance,it wasn't loud, interior noise was low and price. It was on the Excursion for 4 years and appreciated it whenever in the Excursion.
We now have a 4" Magnaflow turbo back system and what a step up all the way around

Hey James,
Out of all the changes I've made to my Ex over the three years I've owned it, this was the one that made the most notable difference, IMHO. For the price, you just cannot beat it. While I don't have any gauges or programmer/chip (yet), I could tell a difference between the stock muffler and the Walker BTM. Plus, I bought it had it shipped to me and installed for less than a c-note. While there is a little more rumble, it is not annoying. Plus, it sounds cool when you pass other cars or drive under overpasses . Hope this helps. Good luck

I concer with the benefits. After I installed mine I notice more high pitched noise, noticeable only with the windows down. Vehicle runs much better.

If you need more whistle and your Excursion has the 7.3L Powerstroke then THIS IS THE FILTER you needs

DAMN!!!!
Leave it to CHP- i wish I had seen your EZ mod before I wasted $50.00 on the K&N stck size air filter! The filter did NOTHING except lighten my wallet.
BTW CHP:
1. Where did you mount the air temp sensor?
2. Would 4 inch pvc pipe be easier to use?
3. Any mileage improvement?
4. Any rubbing or contact wear issues with "loose" element?
Great people make a great forum- THANKS !!! |

Sorry I was late but yes it's a great filter and for the price it can't be beat,I also pulled my K&N panel filter out,now it sits on the shelf
I strapped the check filter doo hickie and air sensor under the filter.
You can use PVC as a substitute to steel but get the heavy schedule if possible, most truck repair shops will have straight 4" exhaust scraps for nothing or very little.
Mileage improvements probably didn't change much due to the new found power but if the wife was to lighten up off the pedal I can easily see mileage improvements.
The only place I've found any contact is where it touches the underhood insulation but I'm talking the outer most edge which is minor with no force,if the wife stops in today I'll snap a pic of the contact area.

You're A-OK CHP!!!
I think my EXC will soon have the same Tymar mod!! Two more questions, if you don't mind:
1. You mentioned more turbo whine (which is coooolll) but, is theer a lot more intake noise or "roar" without the stock box?? My '81 Rabbit 1.6 diesel makes a lot more noise with the snorkel pipe removed but the mileage goes from 41 to 43mpg. The roar is deep and "basso"!
2. Does the box removal affect the battery mounts or are they independent of the box?
3. Did you remove the snorkel to the grill?
THANKS AGAIN!!!!

My experience witht he BTM on my 05 Ex may be unique...
but I'm on my third btm and considering trashing it and it's life time warranty...
all three of mine have developed a rattle at certain rpms.... somethng inside is breaking loose and bouncing around @ a particular rpm - really sounds nice on an expensive large car
the first two times I thought it was the installation or contacting something when accelerating thru this particular rpm, but each time when removed and shaken off the vehicle you could hear something bouncing around in there....
dunno what it is, nor care what it is.... just my fun experience
