I have a 4x4 2000 Ex with the v-10. I purchased some new tires all the way around, Yokohama Geolander II AT. After they were mounted and balanced, the truck would shake, I have had them rebalanced now four other times, at various different shops, and even had a road force balance done on them,, .......... still shakes

I also replaced the u-joints on the rear drive shaft. When I did this there was a little bit of play in the bearings on the output shaft on the transfer shaft. Is this normal, or is it not supposed to have any play at all? When I say play, I mean that I can lay on my back and push up on the drive shaft and it will give ever so slightly.

Other than that I can not figure why in the world the thing is shaking, it does it worst at 55-65 mph.

Thanks for any help!

I'd suggest taking the DS out and having it balanced and checked for trueness and also have them feel the U-joints for any "notchiness"

Hi

Funny that this topic came up, I was with a gentleman this pat weekend that had an 2000- F-250 that had the same issue, he chased through the whole suspension with no luck!

Found the problem to be in the mating coupler shaft between the transmision and the transfer case, the splines on the shaft were actually deformed at the peak's of each spline, like the splines had no peaks at all! Allowing the sloppy clereance mostly noticeable had higher speeds. Something you may want to look into.

Good luck

A week ago we had the factory track bar replaced for the rubber bushings were wasted and at the same time the tie rod was replaced as it too was expired.

SuperDutyHeadquarters in Phoenix Arizona installed a Edge adjustable track bar and the new tie rod on the Excursion.

The X now goes straight without any steering wheel shake/wobble

So did it shake BEFORE the new tires??

Don't track down other problems if it is the tires that are causing it. They may be defective tires.

The new tires we put on a couple weeks ago pretty much reduced tire noise.

There have been many cases where the BFG TKO tires have developed out of round conditons which have been termed as "bad" tires which would be replaced with new units.

Some tire/wheel shops will warrantee out the bad tires and others will pass the buck back to the vehicle's suspension as blame. I give kudos to Discount/America's Tire for taking care of us with honesty & perseverance in both Arizona & Texas

Well, I called Tirerack.com, where I got the tires from, and told them the road force variance results. The two worst ones were put on the rear, the Left rear was 29# and the Right Rear was at 39#. They are sending me a replacement tire for the 39# one, so hopefully it will take care of the problem.

I do think it is in the tires though, since on the way to get the road force balance done, the shake was in the steering wheel, afterwards you feel the shake in the seat.

I will keep you guys posted!

I'm having shaking problems on my truck to intermittently. I'm going to drop it off at Campus Alignment in Tempe soon to have them check it out. Feels like the front right tire is going to fall off even with multiple road balances, new shocks, sway bars etc. \
