OK, since I tow quite abit with my X, I think it's about time to invest in some gauges. Question is, if I get gauges, I'm gonna need to find a reputable place to get them installed.
Questions are:
Where is a good place to buy gauges? Any preference of A pillar or above the rear view mirror? Any particular brand of gauges you guys recommend?
Can anyone recommend a place to do the install in central Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, or the Dallas Area)?
Thanks
Kevin

I'm sure you will get many opinions but I installed the 'x-monitor' and have been very happy with it. Small, easy to read. see link. below. Installation can be as much as the unit itself unless you have the tools and know how to install . ( I did not).

We're running with Autometer Z series gauges and have had no issues with em,in fact many of my friends have the same gauges in their trucks
To purchase gauges contact www.itpdiesel.com ask for Dennis or www.dieselperformanceparts.com ask for Mark. Both ITP and DPP are excellent retailers to do business with
We typically have informal get together/Mod days up here in Dallas and installing gauges is one of the popular mods that gets done, you'd be more than welcome to wheel up one Saturday to get the gauges done.
I know Diesel Injection Service here in Dallas does installs but I think it'll run in the $100-$200 range but not positive.

Thanks for the info guys...
CHP, thanks for the invite up to DFW sometime. I will actually be up there this weekend to drop off my Airstream to a dealer in Weatherford (don't trust the guys in Austin or San Antonio), but it will be a fastback up and back on Sat...
I'll keep an eye on the North PS Assc website, and see what comes up that I can drop in on.

No prob on the drop and go saturday,I'll be chasing down a EFI gremlin on the 5.0L in the morning
NTxPSA usually has a meeting/get-together/event almost once a month but a bunch of us Powerstroke owners hook up like one Saturday a month to turn wrenches and kick back without the XO's nagging
Have a safe trip up and back!

I am looking at doing the triple pillar setup on the X. I did check out the links to the online stores recommended to order from. I do like how you can pick and choose your setup with www.itpdiesel.com, gauge selection, boost 35 or 60, lighting and pillar color. However, I did find the same setup, but you can't choose what gauges you want, they come with either the Z-series or the Ultra Lite gauges, for $269 with free shipping from Amazon. Now, I like to give some of these online stores my business, but that is $145 cheaper then www.itpdiesel.com. The Amazon pillar only comes in black, but to paint it that would only be about $10 bucks for the VHT trim paint. Also, if I want to updrade to the LED bulbs I would have to do that on my own, I did see they sell for about $4.25 a piece for the LED bulbs. So, the question is ordering from www.itpdiesel.com really worth the extra $145 over Amazon? Or go with saving money? Also, what boost gauge 35 or 60? What temp gauge?

One thing is for sure and that is Dennis will give you product support on anything he retails to where with Amazon I guess you just return it but don't know what they do for as far as refunds, exchanges, product support, etc.
From my experience purchasing performance parts customer service/product support is the Priority but for something like LED bulbs,MudFlaps, seat covers, etc I'd go thru Amazon or similar.
I purchase from ITP a couple times a year which included the new Magnaflow exhaust system I picked up last summer from him

CHP is right about the product support. I installed Isspro gauges in a A Pillar along with a Turbo Temp Minder. The original Pyrometer that I got did not work and the dealer sent me a new one. Installed myself using the pre-turbo probe drilled and clamped into exhaust. Turbo Temp Minder is a great addition. Driver Thurs don't like it. When you get where your going just shut it off, lock the X and walk away. When the exhaust temp gets to 300 deg. it shuts down. |
