Hey everyone. I've been lurking about, gathering information for a while now. I just wanted to thank everyone for helping influence my decision to purchase my 2005 Excursion. About a month ago I picked up a slightly used Limited V10 4X4 with under 18K on it. I have been really happy with it so far. Caveat - The suspension is just as most of you have described it - in need of upgrades. I just ordered the Hellwig Anti-Sway bar, and sent LANDYOT the questionaire so I can get my Radius Rods.
My main reason for purchasing this vehicle is its towing (and passenger) capacity. I have a Aerolite Cub 214 Travel Trailer (Under 5200 lbs GVWR) that should be an easy pull with the X. I had previously been pulling it with an Explorer Sport Trac. Needless to say, I have not gone too far from home with that setup. Even the small hills here in SC posed quite a challenge for that tow vehicle! I'll be making my first trip with the camper and the Excursion in mid September. I will have the sway bar and rods installed by then. I can't wait!!!
Thanks again for this great forum, and for all the extremely valuable information that it contains. Without the knowledge I have gained here, I am sure I would have wound up being very disappointed in the ride and handling of my X. Now I am secure in the knowledge that once I install these 2 upgrades (for now!!), the driving experience will be greatly enhanced.
Thanks again for all your help!

If you can get Ken to sell you a set of his RR, GET IT NOW while you can. If not, find someone who has one BESIDES ME and steal it. You won't regret getting it.

My radius rods should be on their way soon...
I guess after I install the rods and the Hellwig bar I'll have to get some shocks to complete the "package". What do you guys think of the Edelbrock IAS shocks for the X????? |

I installed the Landyot Radius Rods today. I can already tell a big difference in ride quality. Very impressive!!! I also tried to install the Hellwig Anto-Sway bar but the hardware that I received is incorrect. Is my 2005 4X4 that different from previous years??? The supplied U-Bolts would not fit in the rear shock mount brackets. They U-Bolts' diameter is too large to fit through the holes. I found that the stock U-Bolts will work, but they are of a smaller diameter material, so I am not sure this would be a good solution, as installing the anto-sway bar will be introducing more force upon them. Also, the end link bolts will not fit in the existing frame holes. I am going to have to drill them out. I did not have a right angle drill to use today. On the passenger side, the muffler interferes with drilling. I was a little dissapointed in this, as i will now have to unbolt the radius rods in order to install the anti-sway bar. I guess I will be calling Hellwig to see if these problems are known, or perhaps I am approaching it incorrectly.

I've had my Edelbrock's for over 30,000 miles on a 2000 PSD X. Towed 16 foot trailer in Rockies, daily driver as well. I'm very happy with them. They were bouncy as h--l when first installed, took about 1,000 miles to settle in. Great highway ride, excellent over ruts, RR tracks, etc.
I had the Rancho 9000's on my Suburban & did not like them. Way too stiff unless set on 1 or 2, then were too soft. Could not find acceptable compromise no matter what I did with settings.
