have a 2000 limited 4x4 v10 basically stock.......
I'm going in for the last service before my Bumper-2-Bumper warranty expires.
I have a laundry list of things but there all small.
Any major items I should check before I pull through service lane for the last time.
Steering knuckles
Ball Joints
Locking Hubs
That clunk when I take of from a dead stop
Thanks Ken D.

How about a little in-put from all you experienced Ford owners.
I have the next few days to get this in.
How do I check Ball joinst?
How can I tell if my hubs are locking and unlocking properly?
(I left tahoe and found the front hub was still locked in when I got to San Diego, would this cause harm?)
My brake peddle makes a "squishy" sound when I push on it, would a bleed help that?
What makes the Clunk when I pull off the line?

Quote: | How do I check Ball joinst? | Jack the front wheels up off the ground, grab them at 6 & 12 o'clock (make certain not to wear a digital watch), and try to tilt them in & out at the top & bottom. Preferred method is to have someone else attempt to tilt the wheel while you hold each ball joint to feel for movement (there should be none). Also, while checking ball joints, grab the wheel at 3 & 9 o'clock, and attempt to turn the wheel left & right to check your rod-ends.
Quote: | How can I tell if my hubs are locking and unlocking properly? | When unlocked, you should be able to reach behind each front wheel and turn the U-joint by hand. Also, I can feel when 4WD is engaged because it puts an extra "drag" on forward movement.
Quote: | I left tahoe and found the front hub was still locked in when I got to San Diego, would this cause harm? | As long as you were in 2WD, the only harm done was to your fuel mileage. BTW, I love skiing at Tahoe!
Quote: | My brake peddle makes a "squishy" sound when I push on it, would a bleed help that? | Mine has started doing that on occasion recently. Bleeding the system is not the solution. In my opinion, the sound seems like it's coming from the brake booster.
Quote: | What makes the Clunk when I pull off the line? | Low amount of grease on the splined shaft portion of your rear driveshaft.

Squishy sound out of the brake pedal----mine turned out to be the master cylinder. The brake booster was ok but it is likely one of the two.
Clunk when take off---I have a 4X2-only thing we fight is those dam^%$#$%! body mounts.
Have your AC compressor checked thoroughly. Mine was running a tad warm--turned out to be a bad compressor
(all this covered under the 100K warranty-I just hit 90K)
Transmission--definitely have this looked at..the dealer should be on your side as the get paid--albeit not as much-when you receive service. Mine failed suddenly with a crack in a clutch plate.
Check out your 6 CD changer--they are finicky. If it gets jammed--make them fix it.
Good luck!
