Cruise control also is not working with engine running (it doesn't bother me that the cruise control doesn't operate with the engine off ... hee-hee). This is a weird problem. It's not the clock-spring like some other posts have mentioned, because if it was, then the horn would not sound with the engine off. I disconnected the battery today for awhile to let the onboard systems "reboot" ... after reconnection, still no horn with the engine on ... works only with the key off.
Just thought I'd ask here first before I pull out my factory service manuals to see if they have a trouble-shooting schematic for the horn. |

Well, the factory trouble-shooting guide wasn't any help. It spoke a lot to horn working or not, but never goes into whether or not the ignition key is in the "ON" position. Alas, I broke down and dropped it at the dealer this afternoon ... need an annual state inspection anyway & I had a coupon for that.
On the plus side ... I spoke briefly with a saleman I've known awhile about trading in my '01 if he could find me a decent V10 '05 model. Will have a more in-depth discussion with him tomorrow. |

Good luck on your issue, I don't know what it could be.

Womder if the CC and the horn run through the same Generic Electronic Control module (there are more than one).

Well, got the bad news this afternoon. The estimate is $1,200 for a "horn module" and cruise control servo. At $700 for the "horn module," I'm assuming they're replacing the GEM ... will know for certain when I pick it up. On the plus side, the guy in the parts department who sells me the bushings I use in the radius-rods should provide me with a discount ... so I expect the total cost to be less than $1,200. My "parts guy" doesn't give me a flat discount. Instead, he calculates at what price he can sell me items where they still make a profit. Sometimes on small stuff it's as much as 75% off, but on others it's as little as %15 ... all depends on what their cost is. Will know more in a couple days, and will post an update.
BTW ... speaking of discounts and prices ... I found I could get an air filter element for Mrs. Landyot's '05 Mustang for far less $$$ through my "parts guy" than what the local auto parts stores wanted ... was 38% less. |

Holy crap! $1200!! What the heck is a "horn module"??
Have you been able to cross reference this "part " against a factory manual just to make sure they aren't just throwin' parts at it?

1,200 ouch.... Can you take a picture of the broken part that they replace. I would like to know what is this "horn module and cruise control servo" they speak of.

Turns out they're replacing the GEM and cruise control servo.
In the meantime, I've got a saleman started on an endeavor to locate me an '05 Limited or EB V10 4WD model with less than 40K miles ... preferably in white ... most any color will be acceptable except another wedgewood blue one (gotten kind of tired of the blue). |

There is a 2005 Limited V-10 in Gold here in SC. It has around 22K on it. It is at a Ford dealer right near Myrtle Beach. It was still there as of last weekend. Same place I got mine a few months back. It is identical to my Ex. Ill send you a PM.

I hate dealing with dealer service departments!!!
Got the X back today, and the damage was a tad over $900 (my parts guy DID look out for me). But now I have other issues. On the receipt, they listed "repaired wiring harness" ... which has me wondering if this was discovered before or AFTER the GEM was replaced? In other words, was the GEM replaced unnecessarily?
Got out my regular set of keys once I was home, but no response from the key fob remote. Drat! It needs to be reprogrammed to match the new GEM!!! To their credit, they did reprogram the fob I left with the X. Hmmm ... I wonder about the driver's door keypad??? Sure enough! The original factory code is gone, and the paperwork doesn't mention what the new code is! AUGH!!!!
Then I glance over their "Precautionary Inspection" report document. Everything there was what I expected, EXCEPT the very last item. It said they re-set the tire pressures to 35 PSI front & 55 PSI rear. NOOOO!!!! I run 65 PSI at all four corners! So I go look at the tires, and remove a valve stem cap to check the pressure. While doing so, I realize that my fingers disturbed the dust on the rim ... Meaning they never removed any of the caps ... they never actually checked the tires. Maybe they wrote the factory-spec info down, but skipped the actual check since I have oversize tires & rims. However, I now suspect anything their paperwork says because this item was not true.
I have to go back and get the access code, and I'll let THEM reprogram the extra fob.
Like I said ... I hate dealing with dealer service departments!
OK, I'm done venting.
Now where did I stow that bottle of scotch??? |
