I ran the K&N drop in on our 99 F250 PowerStroke for a few years but once we got the 7.3L Excursion in 02 a short time afterwards I installed a Tymar style filter which outperformed the K&N handsdown
Here's a link to our Installation Article
They do what they're supposed to do and thats filter the air but doesn't catch all airborne debris as I've found the turbo blades to wear down after use of the K&N,

The K&N filter media isn't designed to stop sand being drawn by a turbo, or at least it can't. Do NOT buy a K&N for a 7.3 diesel.

Performance wise acceleration across the band much much better, turbo whistle louder but mileage I would not say increased for the better performance will make most put their foot into it more thus losing mileage.

i have the cold air kit on my 05 6.0 psd and it gave me a little bit better mileage, and a little more power in the higher rpm range, but besides that not much difference |
