Hello all. I have a 2000 PSD Ex LE with about 116K on lt...has been running great but the Service Engine Soon light came on a little bit ago after one of our cold mornings here in PA. I stopped in at Advance Auto Parts here locally and they pulled the code out of it.
P0478
Exhaust Pressure
Control Valve
Circuit High Input
...they had no idea what to order for it. I know what the valve is but not where it is or how to go about replacing it. They told me to go to the local Ford dealer....but I'd prefer not to use Vaseline if at all possible.
Any suggestions/recommendation/links?
thanks for reading! This site is a great resource and I LOVE my X! |

Sounds like you require a new Exhaust Back Pressure Valve sensor. Typically when you get the 478 it's that either the turbo is sticking closed, the EBPV sensor is unplugged or the EBPV sensor needs to be replaced.
My friend Garrett stocks the EBPV Sensor as well as many other 7.3L parts.
And Yes,the Ford Excursion community here is outstanding!

is there a way to test the sensor with a volt meter, prior to plunking down the $$ for a new sensor?
