My second antenna has just failed. Has anyone had any longevity, more than a year, with a satellite antenna?

I positioned mine in the middle of the roof, at the back. I routed the wires through the drivers side wing window and then ran the antenna wire under the interior mouldings up to the receiver.

The only thing I'm thinking is the opening and closing of the window damaged the wire, but it's closing against weatherstripping so I though it would absorb any crushing.

Any ideas? How did you run your antenna?

Thanks

I have mine mounted in the same place, and have the wire running under the weather strip for the hatch door (just pull the stripping part way off and put the wire through, between the truck and weather stip, mine was kinda gooy with sealant, then press the stripping back on, trapping the wire) and then the wire runs along the headliner, past the wing vent window, and then under the moulding at the top of the two drivers sides doors (the tension keeps it taught along the wing vent windows - up and out of the way), down the front post to under the dash. It has been there for two years uninterupted. No problems.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Mine runs under the door moldings and up under the dash.

Is the wire from the antenna tight to the magnet? Or do you have a little slack? I tried a little slack and can't say whether that helped or hurt.

Hey guys I ran my antenna feedline to the rear thru the upper right side black weather plug then once the feedline was thru and the plug placed back I sealed it with clear silicone.

My antenna and line has been in place for about 3 years now with no weatherstripping to worry about chafing the delicate outer wiring cover.

I can take additional photos later today if you want to see more of the install.

Mine is tight to the magnet like the picture shows.

I didn't know about any rubber plug, I thought the weatherstrip would be the path of least resistance. I am always looking for the easy way...

When the other half gets in with the truck at 5 I'll get photos of the routing for ya

I used to install 2 way radio setups on the side so I have it down to minimize damage to wiring and antennas themselves over the long term.

I had the same issue on my 02, 7.3. After 3 antennas going bad, it turn out the car wash was moving the antenna around. I ended up getting some good adhesive two way tape and mounted it with the tape so it would not move around. I have my Sirius Sportster mounted where the Aux cig lighter is with the little door. I routed the wire from there across the underside of the dash, by removing the fuse panel. Then I removed the weather stripping on the door jam and ran it up along side the winshield post and out towards the fornt of the roof. I have an aftermarket visor on the the roof and it sit back behind it. No problems in a in a over a year. I know some may cring at the two way tape. But it sure beats the heck out of getting a new antenna every year

From receiver to pass door weatherstrip.

Here's the wire coming out the black weather plug.

Wire running in the gutter.

Up and over the vent *note I used some silicone sealant to keep the wire stabilized over the vent.

Magnet mount antenna.

that looks different than mine... I don't have a vent, and I don't remember seeing the weather plug. I guess that is why I ran it under the weather strip.
