Has anyone come up with a solution for all the dust and dirt that quickly settles on top of the barn doors under the rear hatch? I wash my Ex and after a few days of driving I open the rear doors and the dirt/dust is back. Morning condensation runs down the rear window and carries this mess down across the barn doors. I guess some sort of additional weatherstripping is needed. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I hope someone has a good idea. The road salt really piles up back there too! |

I haven't even thought about it until I read this. It is a problem with any type of station wagon or van. The crud builds up on top of the hatch area too. It is an effect of the way the wind swirls up from the ground and covers the rear. You can see how it covers the rear when it rains.
The only thing I have ever heard of to reduce this effect is the spoilers that are sold by the manufacturer. |

I had the color-matched Ford rear air-deflector on my '01. The only thing it did effectively was provide shade for the CHMSL ... it did nothing to help rear window visibility, nor for the accumulation of road dust atop the barn doors.
The problem with an attempt to seal the crud from the tops of the barns doors is you may trap water in there. That's not a problem for the fiberglass barn doors, but it could cause havoc in the winter when that water freezes. Fortunately, I have not had to replace the rear liftgate glass. |

I also wanted to add FWIW, every time I wash my X, I wipe down all of the door jambs with a damp rag, and that includes around the liftgate and barn doors. |
