I have started upgrading my 2000 4X4 v10......sway bar, shocks, tires. I know I need to do something about front springs, very little clearance between bump stops and spring. Planning to do the radius rods after I recover from last weeks spending spree. Was wondering if it's necessary to update the rear springs as well, not planning on any heavy towing.

Are you unhappy with the ride quality from the front?
The Excursion's front suspension was designed with that little bit of space between the perch and the bumpstop. This helped them keep a lower ride/step in height. The bumpstop is an intergral part of the suspension. Later models updated that bumpstops to "smooth" the action when the axle comes in contact with it. You can update to those bumpstops, trim yours a bit or replace them with Timbrens.
If you swap springs you'll undoubtedly raise your ride height (lift). And when you do it you'll need to do both or at least add blocks to the rear.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still learning about the suspension on these things. Repalced what was left of the old bumpstops with new ones from Ford already, they were a liitle shorter than the originals. The ride quality overall is ok, but if you hit good size bump it seems to hit pretty hard.

Reading on here I've learned there are several options in chosing springs. Does anyone have any suggestions on which springs I should go with if I do the swap? Right now the front is sitting 2 inches lower than the rear. I want to use the radius rods with whatever direction I go. Thought I'd have those by now, but too many other things needed attention first. Just a people mover, no heavy towing. Thanks for your input.
