I have an 02 Excursion Limited with the "automatic" AC system. It has the digital display for temps., fan control, etc... Today the system shut down completely. No display, no fan controls or control with any button or switch on the dash system or steering wheel buttons. Pulled over at a rest stop to check fuses - all looked OK. Fired the Excursion back up and the AC system had a display and worked fine for the rest of the trip. Not sure what to look for - anyone experienced this before? Going to the beach in August with family - not a good place to lose the AC.

Unfortunately the EATC system is all electrical and has been known to preform buggy in many Excursions from the get go.
You should be able to stop by an Autozone,Shucks,Checker, etc auto parts store and they'll be able to hook up a code scanner to your rig to see if any diagnostic trouble codes come up.

This happens to mine periodically, once or twice a year. I usually turn the key to start several times, with the headlights on, until it starts to crank without starting. After several tries, the ac/heater comes back on.
What a pain. Fortunately it happens infrequently.
