I've upgraded to a 4" turbo-back exhaust, AFE Air Raid filter, and a DiabloSport Revolution chip. DiabloSport estimates 125HP with all mods together and it sure feels like it. By the way, they were GREAT and very patient in letting me try several programs--for FREE. Don't get that kind of service very often--and they didn't even sell me the chip direct!

Since DiabloSport is close to me, I went and had them set up the chip and we tried several different combinations. During the test, the tech disabled the waste gate and the max boost went from 23-24 to 29-31 (very subjective as I was trying to concentrate on the road).

As expected the MAP Sensor detected >24 lbs. or boost and set the SES light.

So the question is this:

I know that I can limit the boost pressure the MAP Sensor sees to

I guess my first try was cut off, so here's a better explanation of what I'm looking for...

I want to know if disabling the turbo wastegate has any advantages.

The waste gate is opened whenever the boost reaches a certain level (>24 psi). Disabling the waste gate allows more boost, but at the risk of higher exhaust gas temperatures and potential for damage to the turbo from the additional heat.

While I was at DiabloSport, they temporarily disabled the waste gate (unplugged it) and the boost shot up about 4-5 psi at full throttle. At anything higher than 23-24 psi of boost, the Service Engine Light (SES) comes on indicating that the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) is above normal limits. A code is set in the computer when this happens and the engine control unit de-fuels the engine to get the boost lower.

I have seen advertised a MAP sensor pressure regulator (set at 24 psi) that installs between the manifold and the MAP sensor, so no matter how high the boost is in reality, the MAP sensor (and thus the computer) only sees 24 psi max. No de-fueling and that trqanslates into higher boost, more power, and of course more heat.

I'm aware of the need to keep the EGT's down, but I was trying to elicit some advise on what the advantage, if any, of disabling the waste gate to allow higher boost levels. I've been given conflicting advice and wanted to learn more about what happens. Don't want to really blaze a trail and frag my turbo.

Hope that helps and ushers some reponses from those more knowledgable that I.
