Need a little help. I need to purchase new tires and was woundering what kind of tires everyone else runs. I need a tires that has good road manners but is also good in the off road area. We do a lot of wheel'n in the sand at pizmo. The last time we were out there the sand was very loose. Any info from others would be greatly appreciated (what brand, what size, what terrain, etc.).

We haven't run in the sand all that often but we've trekked across the harsh winter roads in snow and ice with our Michelin LTX M/S 285's without a slip. Great traction in deep snow, stays firm footed on wet roads, ride great, balance excellent and are pretty quiet

bspikes, be prepared to have as many "suggestions' as posts. You may end up being more confused AFTER this thread than before.

I LOVE Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVOS. Have had 2 sets on different vehicles and they are fantastic tires. (FWIW, I don't have a set on my current Excursion.)

Those Michelins are great tires, too!

I accually have a set of Dueler Revos on my Dodge and they are great tires, very quiet and great in the wet stuff. No experience with them in the sand yet though. Really need a good all around tire, really thinking about doing a couple of snow poker runs when winter gets here. Anyone running the Nitto Terra Grapplers or Mud Grapplers??

Bspikes,
You may want to use Tire Rack for your research as well. www.tirerack.com
You can enter your vehicle / tire size and the type of driving you do and it will give you suggestions from the tire manufacturers.
Once you have narrowed your selections down, go to the tire reviews from people who have bought the tire and used them.
I have used this to pick tires for a couple of vehicles with great success.
Next tire for my X will be Goodyear Silent armor!
Good luck,
James

When it's time for tires, I'll probably go for another set of BFGs. I haven't researched them in awhile, but I hope to find some 285mm wide Trail-TA tires in load range E. The only reason I like them is because the load range D trail-TA's I had on my old F350 went for 96K miles before needing replacement. Kept those old tire at their maximum of 65 PSI, and never once rotated them.

I run the Terra Grapplers on both my trucks. On my Screw I ran a +1 size

On my X I have the 325/60/18's and I am on my 2nd set. I got about 65K on my 1st set. Great tire

I bought my Ex with 30K miles on it, the previous owner (the car dealerships son!) installed Michelin LTX M/S's. I ran those tires 60K miles and just replaced them not because of wear but because the sidewalls started to crack from dry rot. Not sure when the PO installed the tires but they sure do last a long time and provide an excellent ride and road grip, they are pricey but I think they are worth it.
