After I changed the Belt to a Gatorback belt, I had marked the idler pulley with a marker; it has moved a bout 1/4 inch to the tighter position. Looking at it it moved to the right. I now have a small vibration. Could it be the different surface from the belt? And is the smooth pulley on top supposed to move slightly back and forth at idle. Because it is. The vibration is not constant but noticeable.

Oh by the way its a 2001 Excur. 7.3L Deisel

If this had happened to me, the first thing I'd do is reinstall the old belt and see if the vibration goes away. Have you tossed out the old belt yet? If the vibration remains while using the old belt, the problem is elsewhere. If the vibration goes away with the old belt, then you have an interesting problem which I cannot diagnose from here.

EDIT TO ADD: Welcome to the X-Files!

Yeb, your right. I reinstalled the old belt. The vibration is gone. I will try to find a different belt. Thanks for the help.
