Need to buy new tires.
While it came stock with D laod range, am thinking of going with the E.
This will limit the choices.
Wanted to get some feed back, Tires are a lot of $$$ I believe that the E will yield longer tire life.
Looking forward to getting responce

I went with E-rated when I replaced the tires since I knew I was going to be towing with it.
You may want to consider your towing frequency. Is there a large price difference between the D and E?

Kevin,
The price diff is about $70.00.
Was there a noticible differeance in ride quality when you moved up to the e-load range?
I am looking at the good year silent armor tire.

None that I could tell. Is that $70 total or $70/tire?

James,
My favorite tire, of the ones that I've tried, was the BFGoodrich (I think it was called the Rough Terrain, maybe Tough Terrain, someone can help me with the model) they came off a stock '07 4x4 SD on the 17" rims, they gave a good luxury type ride and they were E rated.
I also tried the Revo's E rated and the ride was too harsh for me.
I tried the Nitto Terra Grappler AT E rated and didn't like them either, harsh ride, wouldn't balance (and I tried multiple times) and so they wore funny which made for a even worse ride at highway speed.
My opinion is to not get a tire for the X that someone hasn't had long term success with.
My 2 cents,

I am running 285/75/16 Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's with F-350 springs under my truck and the ride is awesome. I was kind of worried about putting one ton springs under my truck but it was the best thing I could of done. Also when thinking about it our trucks are like pickups with a nice load in the back.
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!! |

The Excursion should have E rated tires on it not D's. Ford did a recall with Firestone in 2004. I went into my local Ford dealer and they ordered me 5 new tires for my X. The old ones the letter said would with out warning loose air or something to that effect. The real reason was that they should have built the X with E's instead of D's. So I got 5 new E rated tires for free from Ford and Firestone.
The E's are what a F250 SuperDuty would have come with.
I would put E's on for peace of mind if you do any towing at all. |

Got new tires yesterday!
GOODYEAR Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade (E Load Range)
Got a very good deal from one of the local to St. Louis chains, Dobbs.
Bought four, 285-75-16 with a front end alignment for $1,050.00, and they offered free lifetime tire rotation. I WILL be calling them on this as it is a pain to do this yourself, 75 pound tire and rim, and 165 foot pounds on 8 lugs = WORK OUT!
Now for the next quest, what is the deal with the tires looking like they are leaning towards the inside of the E? They were talking about "Caster, Camber, Toe in, and Toe out. ALL a foreign language to me! Especially with a 7 year old pulling on my arm " DADDY it is DONE lets go I WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!"
Hope that one of you can enlighten me as to the lean towards the center. I would think that this would cause excessive tire wear.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
