Just picked up an '01 Excursion V10 Limited. Have wanted a vehicle like this since the Centurion. Well I guess that shows my age........
Not too familiar with this site. If there is a "new member" area, sorry. Also, is there an archive section? I have a few questions I need to answer, not to mention more down the road.
Thanks,
Kris

Have only had the truck one week. I did see your post in regards to the FIPK from K& N. We put it in anyway. It has made a difference.
I need to get the oil done and the truck has 101K on the clock. My husband and I are thinking synthetic which is what we use in my three high mileage SHO's. What would be the best to protect the engine the most?
We are thinking the plugs/wires as well but what are the definite areas that should be taken care of first?
I did join the www.ford-trucks.com site to see stuff on there as well. I have never been one of those girls who stands on the side of the road with the hood and my arms up saying "I don't know, I just put gas in it?"
Thanks in advance!

Dp you know the maintenance history?
If not, then I would definitely do the plugs. Look at the V10 forum over at ford-trucks.com for all the tips and tricks.
Next I would do the tranny fluid if it wasn't changed at 90K like it should have been.
With regards to oil; Motorcraft 5W-30 or 20 Semi-synthetic is cheap, recommended and performs fantastically. Resist the urge to use something else. Nothing "better" has made any discernible, positive effect on performance. For example, Mobil1 has shown that it evaporates quickly requiring frequent top offs.
Glad that intake "worked" for you. What kind of difference did you feel?

First, WELCOME aboard!

The '01 V10 does not have conventional plug wires. It has COP (Coil On Plug) ... a small coil is mounted atop each spark plug ... all 10 of 'em. The service interval does call for the plugs and COPs to be replaced at 100K miles, and while spark plug costs are notional, the COPs can be expensive. I hope you can locate a good discount source. My local dealer beats most everyone on price, so I've rarely bought anything elsewhere. |

Thanks for the replies. Will note the suggestions and see how quickly we can do them.
Monsta - The air intake seemed to make the truck run smoother and accelerate qucker. Not a huge difference but noticeable. I have only had it on three days now but have noticed a slight gain in mpg.
Landyot - I am wondering if the COP for the plugs would be the same as what they use for the V8 SHO? Can you tell me your source or can you email it to me?
Thanks much!

I can't speak to the SHO. Source? I used my local Ford dealer for almost all stock items.
