Thank God!

Looks like guy was either or modder or bought a hastily repaired Ex. Can you see why I say that?

That was some serious wind!!! Look, it lifted the latches on the roof rack cross bars.

Hey Guys! I'm glad to see you two are still around. I still have my EX. but I don't drive it much anymore. I might as well hijack this thread since the link doesn't work anymore.
I do have something to say, My Ex will shift really hard into second only when accellerating slowly. If I use moderate throttle it shifts fine. I have changed the trans fluid every 30k using the cooler line to get about 90% of the fluid each time. It is due for another fluid change as I now have 90k. I changed the filter already also. I don't drive it except for vacations and drives over 200 miles, so this is not a must fix now situation. If you have heard of any trends or common trans. issues , let me know. I might have even asked about this before, but I have been so busy. It really is a pleasure to see familiar people still here.

Transmission! Ugh! That was the main reason I got rid of my '01 Limited. There are many threads here (and elsewhere) discussing problems with the early transmissions. I do not recall the exact issue, but I believe it had something to do with Ford trying an electronic actuation on an internal application that historically had always been mechanical ... and the electronic design did not prove to be reliable. I do not know if that is what's ailing your X.

I did have plans to trade in the '01 on an '05 during the early months of 2007, but when my transmission started to give subtle hints that it was no longer acting like usual, I rescheduled my trade-in about 5 months earlier than originally planned. I did not want the expense of servicing that transmission ... especially since I had no warranty on that X.

I have not heard of any "inexpensive" transmission issues with the X. I have not answered your questions, but I will offer you my prayers that your wallet isn't hit too hard.
