Hey guys-
I'm adding a ViAir air system (compressor, tank, air horn) this weekend, and am wondering who has put their compressor in the rear air compartment. Just wondering how you mounted it, and where you passed the cords thru. Thanks!

Most folks mount it on the frame rails. Never heard of it mounted inside. Wouldn't it be noisy?

If you read ViAir's directions, it says the compressors should be kept from excessive dust and water. Though I have heard many people put them outside, I'd rather go by what the manufacturer writes. I've seen a few on other forums mount it inside, but haven't heard back yet.
I got it mounted today, and I simply made a cardboard template and drilled up from under the truck to mount it. It's actually not loud suprisingly, at least not when I used my RV battery to run it in the house. We shall see tomorrow (hopefully) when it's all hooked up. |

Had one mounted there until it died. One of those expensive off road models... As said before, simply marked the mounts & drilled. I have a second battery for my winch & lights, so I brought back a heavy wire to handle it & my backup lights. Yes it was loud, but I only used it for refilling the tires after 4-wheeling. I now have a cheap one from Costco that works better. Just clip to the battery and fill. Good luck anyway you decide to go. It's always nice to have air on board! |

Got the whole system in now, and I love it.
Being the the Ex's rear heat compt. has its floor lined with heavy rubber, it was a good place to mount it. You do hear it, but with normal road noise and the radio on, it's barely noticeable.
I ended up making a cardboard template of where the compressor mounts were, then drilled up from under the truck, worked great.
So now I have the 380C compressor, a 2.5 gallon tank, a Grover 1510 air horn, tire fill chuck, and dual rear suspension air bags. It all runs to a ViAir dual needle pressure gauge (tank & bags) on the dash. I'll get pics of it soon and put em on my Webshots page. It was a LOT of work, but it came out great and works better than I thought! |
