Has anyone put bilstein 5100 shocks on a a stock suspension? I have heard great feedback regarding the 5100 shocks over the Rancho 9000XL. I have heard people have put the bilstein 5100 shocks on a non lifted X but I don't know which ones to order....

I order the Bilstein Heavy Duty Shocks from eshocks.com for my Excursion whihc is stock ride height and I love them.

I also have the Landyot Radius Rods and the Hellwing font and reach anti-sway bars.

My personal preference is different. I installed the adjustable Ranchos on my 2001 Ltd, and I was OK with them. I say "OK" because I had nothing to compare them with. After getting my 2005 EB, I figured I'd try a set of Bilsteins. Big mistake. I am not at all happy with them, and will switch back to the Ranchos at my next shock change ... which may be be rescheduled to an earlier date.

The Bilsteins are just too "stiff" IMHO ... feels jittery. If you like them, I'm happy for you.

As davecarpe said, I ordered the same shocks. I cant answer on the 5100. But all i can add is I have changed the shockes out twice now in the front and twice in the rear. Overall I really happy with them. Some say they are too stiff, but if you ask me its a truck not a caddy. the shocks off a good balance of driving preformance, yet with a load do a very good job. Remember when you change your shocks out at the least change the axle bump stops! THEY make a huge differance when replaced, coupled with new shocks.

They seem to get weak around 75-80K in the front. But overall Im on my 2nd set all the way around and and one extra on the rears.. My upper shocks bolts broke on the rear. Bent the shock from slamming against the frame. Yep. Lesson learned hevay duty clips from napa and grade 5 bolts. Never a problem since.

Davecarpe -
Can you tell me more about the radius rods and anti-sway bars? Where did you get them and how difficult were they to install? Mechanic install or in the garage job?
Thanks./KM//

First, WELCOME to the X-Files!

Second, here's a webpage with information about the radius-rods ...

Lastly, mechanic or DIY install depends on your mechanical abilities.

Thanks much. I put the Banks power elbow and "monster exhaust" in without too much trouble, might try my hand at these as well. Appreciate the link!
