Gentleman, any help would be appreciated...
I have a 03 Excursion with the 7.3 PSD with auto. Every time we put it in reverse, the #27 fuse blows, taking out the rear a/c, overhead trip computer, and the blinkers. Strange combination I know. I have replaced the shifter level, after some advice from a friend that had an f250. No luck that wasn't the culprit. I am not a 100% sure, but it seems like you can here a faint click around the steering column when it blows. |

I have heard of chaffed wiring harnesses doing something like that...apparently you have to trace the wire to the source but I imagine you probably checked all that when you replaced the shift lever. Is there some type of reverse solenoid switch thats activated in conjunction with the transmission and reverse lights?? This is not an area of expertise but I thought I'd throw out a few things I've heard. Good luck. |

Have you checked the trailer tow harness? Is it a factory one or one that someone has installed or altered? Is there water in the back of the vehicle like maybe the tail light wiring is shorting? Water get in from venting the windows forgetting. Letting rain in? I used to do that until I put window modules on my back widows to auto-close when I arm the alarm
Just kinda throwing stuff out there. I deal with this type of stuff all the time with the business. |

I just had something similar happen. Ofcourse the shifter wire was broken, repalced with a new shifter. After that my guage cluser went out, rear defroster, power adjust pedals. I could not figure out for the life of me. Anywho, towed to dealer, there were a couple of wires that had worn through farther down the coloum. Plus they claimed a "cracked connector." I gave them the knowledge I got off another site, about the possiblitly of the additional wires on the coloumn. They were able to get right at the problem and fixed it in 3 hrs. exessive if you ask me, but its fixed! I spent hours trying to track it down. but with no wiring diagram it was the blind leading the blind. LOL

There is a wiring chaffing problem in the engine compartment on the fire wall by the steering shaft. It is an engineering problem on Ford;s part but they will not except responsiblity for the flaw. It took three trips to a local auto electric genius to solve mine. Instead of replacing the harness, he repaced the wire and fixed it so it can't happen again. Mine only caused problems on rainy days or a trip through the car wash. |
