I was at dealership recently, considering Excursion purchase and happened to inquire about 2004 model year order date. Was informed that typically dealers would get order info for following model year around the middle of June.
Salesperson called my back next day to let me know there would be no 2004 Excursion. I asked the business manager there in a separate conversation and they confirmed this info. I was surprised at this because it is contrary to what I have seen in this forum.
Is this information valid, or are they trying to hard sell me the 2003. They know that I am very interested. |

This is the information that we have all been referring to:

I think the dealership is pulling your leg or doesn't have their facts straight. If you can wait, new models typically come out in the fall. I haven't heard anything about the 2004 model year Excursions as far as changes/additions go. I would expect there will be improvements to the 6.0L seeing as how it'll be its second model year in production at that point. This is purely speculation, though.

Typically, dealers are the last people to know about new product info (they're too busy trying to sell cars to look ahead). My mother is the GSM at the Ford dealer I work at, and not only was she surprised to hear about Ford killing the Thunderbird again in a couple years, but she was equally surprised to hear about the '04 Excursion.

Very true. Unless they deal in high volume of a particular model, they don't go out of their way to learn about the next model year because their priority is selling what's on their lot.
My grandfather owns a dealership, back when the 6.0L was supposed to be coming out, he didn't know the specifics on the JOB1 date, neither did the guy who orders the trucks for customers from the plant. I think the people who are in the business are a little less enthusiastic about finding out about the new things for the upcoming model years.

Thanks guys,
Perhaps I will wait at least a few months before purchasing to see if there will be a 2004. If so, I will be able to benefit from any improvements to the 6.0 PSD and the vehicle in general, if not, I will at least have a late 2003 before production stops.
Of course, my wife would much prefer I got the 6.8, (she would prefer that I get a Yukon XL for that matter), however, it is quite unlikely that she will be able to persuade me against the Excursion. I love the way the Excursion looks and feels, and it drives better than my '98 Expedition, which I almost hate to give up, it has been a great vehicle. My best friend wants to buy it for his wife, so at least I will still get to ride in it sometimes.
Thanks for the input,
Bart |

I was under the impression that 2003 was the last year for the Excursion, I picked up a clean 2000 from a local Ford dealer and I have feel in love with the big lug.

While this is probably very old news for everyone here, the 2004 Ford Excursion obviously exists. (Though I hear that now 2004 is the final production year.) |

Here's a twist. My dealer told me last Friday that although he never promises anything, he promises the Excursion isn't going away. He claims the "gone in 2004" rumor was manipulating sales. Claims his dealership sold 50 Excursions when the rumor hit.
On another note, Ford.com has a .pdf that shows what's new for 2004 SUV's. Low and behold, 2 new colors for the Ex and they now get wireless headsets with the DVD. Oh, and on Ford.com they show a $500 rebate already out on the '04.
BTW, on TDS one guy's says he looked at 2 new 2004's on the lot. Both the new gold color.
I'd find a new dealer.

Jim, do you have the url for that page? I spent a bit of time on the Ford site and couldn't find it.
Thanks!

I'll look but if you'd like I can email it. Let me know. kennedy-jim@comcast.net
:EDIT: Just went looking and can't find it now. I could have sworn it was right there easy to find. I downloaded the one for trucks and for SUV's. I also have one that has great detail on the 6.0 for 2004 but it's primarily the Body Builders Guide I believe it called. It's over 10Mb. The others are only 1-2 Mb max. so I can email those no problem. I'll email the big one if you really want it and don't have dial up.
