Has anyone got any good ideas about 3rd row seat headrests for an X? It is one of my only peeves about the interior, as my kids are starting to get tall enough were I'm concerned about not having them back there? I've scoured the web, but can't really find any good info (other than some cheesy custom seat builders that will make seats that work - but for a price).

I had the idea a while ago. I never followed through with it. I will, but later.
I spoke with a guy who got some from a wrecked Expy (same headrests) and had them welded ontp the frame of the third seat by a local seat upholstery guy.
Check your local automotive upholstery shops. They can strip the seat cover off the top to expose the frame, put holes in the covering and get the rods welded to the frame.
The hardest part will be finding headrests that you like. And also making them adjustable. Fixing them in position will probably be the cheapest route.

Hey Ken,
Since you used to live up here, do you know of any shops that could do this? I'm pretty serious about getting something done back there, but don't want to MM (Mickey Mouse) it myself since the only purpose is safety. I like the idea of welding the existing 2nd row headrests back there, and putting better ones on the second row seats (probably off an expedition which I think would fit nicely if I can match the leather).
I'm south of Boston, but if you know of any good shops please let me know.

The shop in my old town (Leominster) would have done the install but not the welding. I cannot recommend anyone right now...
Ask around in your town or open up the phone book and start calling.
FYI, the headrests are identical in the Expy and the Excursion.
