Just joined a few days ago...I posted some photos in the registry and wanted to get some feedback! Photos are here in the registry.

Basically, I lifted it a bit, slapped on some new wheels and tires, hit it with a SCMT, threw on a new bumper and some PIAA's. I'm waiting for my Warn winch to come in but it hasn't gotten here yet.

On another note, is a 9500lb winch big enough for me? I've heard some people talking about a rule of thumb being get a winch that's 1.5x the curb weight of the vehicle...

Welcome Mike. Sharp X for only hav`n it for 3 weeks. Nice
I think I would have gone with at least a 1200lbs winch. I would think you will have to 2-part the line (snatch-block) to get it to work efficiently with that much wieght(The Buss)and not drainning the battery. Heck, I had a 9500 on my Jeep.
Did you have any driveline vibrasions with the 6" lift.

Welcome to the site, Mike!

Nice pics -- I also checked out your photography site -- very cool.

With regards to the winch, you definitely should go with at least a 12,000lb winch. With your new bumper, larger tires, etc. etc. your X is easily pushing 8,000 lbs, probably closer to 9,000lbs. If you get stuck, the winch will be working hard to "unstick" 9,000lbs of metal which is why the general rule of thumb is to get a winch capable of winching out 1.5x the weight of the vehicle.

I'm not sure how hard you plan on wheeling it, but this is also something to keep in mind if you get into a situation where you're going to be winching out another full-size vehicle. A typical 4x4 however will be in the 6,000lb range. The Excursions are a special breed.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've actually had the truck for a touch over a year now...don't know where the 3 week figure came from but most of the mods are very recent!

MONGO: I haven't had any driveline vibration with the lift...which is curious, since I saw a post about driveline vibration with a 4" lift. No idea why, but I'm not complaining.

E. Long: Yeah, a larger winch would be a very good idea. I already got the 9.5ti and am waiting to install it...I mainly expect to be pulling my buddies in Jeeps and pickups (Tacoma and S-10 size) out of the mud, so I think it can handle it...but it is a point well taken about pulling myself out with that much weight.

I'll post some more pics once the winch is on and I have some more done to it....

Thanks!

Jeremy,

Thanks! The RA front end came out to be about $2,200 delivered. That's for the bumper (Part #6300), integrated brushguard part, everything powdercoated Gloss Black, PIAA fog lights and PIAA driving lights. Call up TrailReady at 425-353-6776. Great service, too.
