Just thought I'd share my latest failure/fix.
My AC went out and it's getting hot her in Cali.
So I checked out the system and it was charged up. But the compressor would not engage. So I checked on the power circuit and found it started out at zero volts and began rising up to about 11 volts (without the compressor plugged in). Who knows why at this point power starts from zero and steadily raises. As soon as I plugged the low pressure switch back in it dropped to about 1,5 volts. So I replaced the relay (cheap and easy). No help though. So I disconnected the circuit from the low pressure sending unit to the relay and compressor and check the wiring with the ohm meter for grounds or opens. All good. Time to power up the circuit from under the hood (yeah I hot wired it). Compressor goes and it started to get cold. Only thing left supplying the circuit is the AC/heater controller according to the schematic. So I have ordered one from Pic n Pull (Just kidding, I gotta go there tomorrow). The controller is running on a 5 amp fuse which is good enough for a compressor clutch. The controller however is the weakest link on the circuit. It would be better if Ford would have put that circuit to another relay and fuse to protect the weak (under engineered) controller. I may do that when I get my new one.
Hope this helps someone diagnose this issue, or just throw parts at it. That works sometimes.
I'm new here so let m intro myself. For the name Fake-cop I found that a white Crown Vic looks like California's specially marked patrol vehicles in the mirror. Those v4ehicles are used for monitoring truck traffic. I figured that out as no trucker in his right mind would get out of the slow lane to block traffic in front of me. How nice of tem to keep my express lane open.
