I was reading through the procedure for installing a 3 inch body lift on a 97 f-150 extended cab, and it seemed it was doable with the right tools and some time. It stated at the end that some cutting and welding MIGHT be required for the shrouds/radiator mounts. Has anyone ever attempted this on their own or would I be better off having it done. Trying to save $300.

Helped out a friend,

You take the shroud and cut it in two. Side to side not top to bottom

Remount the top in the original spot. Remount the bottom approx 3.5
inches lower.
Thats what we did.

We didnt do any welding though.
We had a guy build a longer linkage rod for the clutch.

Thats not dented, It's customized
