Hello, I have a 2003 Interceptor, excellent car, AC is very cold after it comes on, but it takes 5 or 10 minutes for it to come on, it has manual controls not ETAC, I do have '03 factory service manuals and see that the PCM is linked to the AC system, I see that there is a AC cutout relay and a note in the book says:
"When A/C cutout relay is de-energized and A/C clutch cycling pressure switch is closed, current will flow to the A/C compressor clutch solenoid which allows the engine to drive the compressor"
My question: Is this delay normal on an Interceptor? or Is the PCM not receiving the correct info to turn it on immediately? It does cool very well so I am scratching my head on this one, thought there might be a bulletin on this or something. Help me please and I can help you also |

That doesn't sound normal. I would find a reputable A/C shop to check things out. It could be corrosion on a contact, big PITA to locate. You almost have to disconnect / reconnect all the wirings in that circuit. I've seen the big fuses get corrosion that made the system act weird. If worst comes to worst, the stealership will "fix it".

Thanks for the reply, last tnight after the car was sitting for a few hours, I fired it up and timed it to see how long it would take to engage clutch, also this was just sitting parked, it took 6 minutes and like I said it cooled fine. Today I swapped out with my wife and I timed it, fired up took off normal driving, it took 3 minutes to engage clutch and also it cooled fine.
I talked to Ford guy at an independent shop, he said it sounded normal, that it needed to build head pressure...Seems to me a cop might get a little miffed if his/hers A/C did not cool sooner than that..
I hooked up the gauges and the low side is normal between 20 to 40 PSI when I idle it up the high side gets too high though, it can go over 350 PSI this too high but it still cools good |
