I have an 88 crown vic donor car with 52K on it. Runs great. Specs say it only has 150 hp and 270 lb ft torque. I am planning on putting the engine and aod tranny in my 59 ranchero and wondered whether to keep the efi injection/computer or go back to a carb setup for power. Didn't know what mods to make on an injection engine to make power. Would like 250-300 hp, will be a daily driver |

Congrats on trying out a great idea. Engine transplants are fairly common. I've put Chevy, Ford, and Olds engines and trannies into VWs in the past.
1) Search out as many different forums as you can looking for info about this type of swap. (Wish I could have done it in the past before Internet.) Concentrate of Mustang forums, since they would have the most info about rebuilding / upgrading the engine.
2) Search hot rod magazines online, like http://www.mustang50magazine.com/index.html, http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/index, or http://www.hotrod.com/. You should be able to find articles or how to's about the engine. Maybe a few about a swap or two.
3) Start looking at catalogs, like SpeedwayMotors.com for specifics you may need. The Ranchero came with a Straight 6 or 352 ci V-8, so you may need adapters to mount the 302 onto the frame. The same with the AOD. There are several "adapter: companies out there. Speedway Motors was the first to come to mind.
4) Start taking pictures and document the swap. Whenever you get a chance, post the swap as you go along online. You may be able to help someone else. Or may have a problem that somebody knows how to help you with.
Best of luck and have fun. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to hot rod it.
