Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody has tips on what parts are typically missing from inside the rear doors that disables the locks. I've seen some videos on youtube, but they vary as far as fixes. Has anyone had it as simple as replacing the rod to the door latch? Not much of a car guy as this is my very first. Trying not to have to take it to a shop, 'cause I've seen quotes around $300 just for the damn actuator. Any help would be awesome. Thanks,

Zach

Most government forces that use the CV and need the rear doors to stay locked drop the parts into the door bottom. There is always the possibility that they didn't. You will need to get a diagram of all the parts in the rear door (www.fordparts.com is a good source) and go to a junk yard (I'm not pc) to get the parts. Re-assemble and it should be okay.

Also if it is the control that sits at the ear of the door with the little "child lock" switch on the outside, you will need to get it from a used car at the junk yard or the stealership. In that case, you may want to check the prices of online dealerships. Some offer a good discount from the msrp.

Hey jdmeaux,

Thanks for the link, I've been struggling to find that diagram. I've googled all (the wrong) stuff so far apparently. The thing that's stopped me from removing the door panels to this point is that I've heard what a bunch of shit those little plastic clips that hold it on after taking off the 3 or 4 screws can be. In your experience/opinion, just how easily DO they break? My buddy, Joe, has a '99 Mitsu Eclipse RS and had to fix either his power windows or door locks, broke one or a few, and now drives around with the door gutted, and leaves the interior panel at home.

Thanks again, badass looking Vic you've got there, too. Just saying.

Wow! I found out that I have "hidden" rear door locks! They're so cool, I feel like a secret agent with this car. So happy that I don't have to throw $300 into fixing my locks that I could just ...feeling better now.
