Hello, I am a new member who is researching the option of using a Ranchero as a trailer towing vehicle. I have a 1978 Argosy travel trailer than weighs about 5,500 when loaded to MGVW. I have been using a 93 F 150 with a 351 W. My brother recently bought an El Camino to pull his boat and he is getting a small trailer. Since i have the trailer already, I started search for an El Camino but since it is smaller than a Ranchero, I thought I look here too. The El Camino isn't capable of pulling a 5500 # trailer without stressing it. Since the 70's Ranchero s were built on a Torino frame, I was wondering if it has more beef? If so, I thought I might look for a 78 or 79 Ranchero to match the trailer. What do you think or know? Do you have any idea of fuel mileage on a Ranchero? My 351 is a guzzler at 12 mpg. I use it as a daily driver too.
