On 9/4/06 we enabled remote image watermarking. When you remotely embed an image in one of your registry entries on another site or forum, it will automatically be "watermarked" with the SuperMotors logo and URL like this:

Images over 600 pixels wide X 200 pixels tall will be watermarked
In an effort to not cover up forum signatures that many of our members host on SuperMotors, images under 600x200 will not be watermarked.

Subscribers can optionally disable remote watermarking
...by editing the albums on each of their registry entries (click on "Edit Album" in "My Garage" and you will see watermarking instructions at the top of the page).

Images viewed on SuperMotors will NOT be watermarked.
If you embed your images in a forum post or view your images in a registry entry on SuperMotors, you will not see the watermark. If you DO see a watermark on an image while viewing it on SuperMotors, this is most likely a result of viewing the image embedded on another site. By refreshing/reloading the page in your browser, the watermark will disappear (note that the above image is a hard-coded example of the watermark -- refreshing/reloading this page will not make it go away).

We've implemented this feature in an effort to create additional exposure and awareness for SuperMotors.

The introduction of this feature introduced a bug that prevented users from adding additional album sections to their registry entries. This bug has been fixed.

I can understand your need to add exposure to this site, but is there another way to do it? This addition ruins some pictures, especially those with print in them as sometimes it blocks the print and you can't read what is in the picture.

I've stuck with Supermotors thru the crashes, and have no reason to change to another hosting site, but this watermarking addition is making me rethink my choice.

The watermarking will only appear when remotely embedded on another site. If visitors are directed to the registry entry or the link to the photo on SuperMotors, the watermark will not appear (if you are seeing a watermark on your photos while viewing it on your SuperMotors page, simply refresh the page in your browser).

The watermarking can also be completely turned OFF for subscribers.

I appreciate your feedback on this and the fact that you've stuck with us through the bumps in the road in the past 2 years. We do feel that since there is a way to link directly to the photo on SuperMotors (and not see the watermark) or become a subscriber to turn off watermarking completely, that it is a win-win situation for both members and us. We have seen a lift in traffic and new users since introducing the feature and it is the best form of free advertising for us right now.

I think it's a good idea. I also like when I copy the a href link to the clipboard, it makes the picture "clickable" and brings the viewer to my SuperMotors Garage where they can view more of my pictures and get more good ideas and enjoy what I have hosted.

Cheers!
