I have a 2001 excursion 4x4 and I had the tranny replaced last mounth but it sat for 6 this winter. I got it back and discovered that a cliper pin was frozzen so i changed all of them out, new hard wear, new pads and roters. I jump in it after all this and find that about 30 miles into my drive that the front end started to wobble not just when i break but all the time. my pads started to smoke. I let it sit for a few hours and its fine for about 20-30 miles and it happens again. any help would be nice, i just droped 3000 on the tranny and would like to not spend a ton in a shiop if I can help it.
That sounds just like ball joints.....that happened to me (same Truck) and I jacked it up again after I did the brake job, and with the tire and wheel still mounted to the truck I grabbed the bottom and yanked on it back and forth. Found a little play, and I new right then it was ball joints. If you are going to do them you better replace all four (upper and lower-each side). I did my own. But some guys take in to the shop. Its not an easy job if you don't have the right tools. Good luck.
