Like I said, "some" vehicles have problems with the pulley change, even with a new battery and new alternator. You could install them, and if you DID find your lights dimming, change back to the OEM pulley on the alternator. That's what most guys will do.
Lets talk about the diesel flush. I have done this on several vehicles at about 80,000 miles, and kept them until I finally needed something larger or more modern. I had a 1976 Impala wagon I did this to, sold the car at 115,000 miles. The guy who bought it from me had a valve job done at 130,000 miles and the mechanic was wondering why the engine was so clean without TONS of sludge. I even explained to the mechanic what I had done, and he never heard of doing that, but now swears by it.But regular oil changes every 3000 miles is the key, with regular maintenance.

The '76 Impala had the "emission" 400 ci engine, and was a slug. Started at 11 mpg average. I upped the timing, recalibrated the distributor, had made and added a 3/4 inch carb spacer, and opened the exhaust to 2 1/2 inch pipes. Got up to 14 mpg average after that. It was the 8 passenger version, extra seat in the boot. When it was bought new, the salesman said it was the same 400 engine Pontiac was using. B.S. I found out later it was a junk engine. (I wish I would have bought the one with the 350 ci.) But it served it purposes. The back seats laid down and made a great bed for bringing sick relatives to the hospital. We kinda looked at it as a mini-van.
Don't forget that the '70s was the end of the Horsepower wars, and more into emissions control. You might buy a car with 300 horses one year, and the next the same engine was rated at 160 HP. Remember the Mustang II? 4 cylinder and cramped! 88 Horses.
