I have a 2002 Gran Marquis, its in nice condition all the bells and whistles work, no real damage, some scratches and dents(my wife is a trash can magnet), in short its great. we will be geting a new car soon and i shall keep the Marq. im curious if there are any Classic ford rebodies that are compatible with this chassis/ wheel set up. i was thinkin, fruitlessly im sure, of perhaps a ranchero or falcon, im not picky on the particulars only that it appears old/classic while keeping the comfort and ease of maintaince of my Marq |

I've never heard of any "rebody" kits for the Panther platform, although I have seen several people modify their cars to look differently (new front end, new rear end), sometimes redesigning urethane pieces from a Mustang to fit their cars. But actual kits , NO. You could try a Google search, and contact some of those companies that make them for other cars to see if they could be modified to fit the platform.
What you could do if you have a friend who is great at art is redesign your car to look the way you want it to, and start planning from there. Say you want it to look like the 1960-66 Ranchero. The nose will have to be squared off. You would have to cut down the body behind the front seats and build a rear wall, and then build the rest of the car like the box. Then you have to build up for the windows, all the lights, and the little things.
I read online about a guy in Arizona that took the old Falcon body and expanded it to fit the Panther platform on a 1994. That was a three year job for him, and he was a welder / body repairman.
This is not a project for the backyard mechanic, although it could be done. Man, that's a lot of time-consuming welding, measuring, and cutting plus the electrical and painting. Definitely not a winter project, maybe over 2 years or more. But if you go for it, let us know here about your project.
Go check out www.crownvic.net. There are a few pictures of some mods people have done.
