89 crown Vic driver's side door

The driver's side door will not open from the outside, but will open from the inside. What specifically is wrong? I can't find information on a car this old- everything is the newer models. I'd take the door panel off and check for anything that looks wrong, who know could be the handle itself. Just a suggestion. Signature X_________
