Unlike the similar-looking condenser (capacitor) on older points-style ignition systems which was required for the system to work, these RFI capacitors are only to reduce noise in the radio (primarily in the AM band). The later design
F6UZ-18832-AA (~$8~11 at dealership) is an upgrade & direct replacement for the older metal design.
