I have a 1992 Ford Bronco, 302, automatic trans with OD, auto hubs, but manual floorshift to engage transfer case. The problem I have run into after getting stuck in a large mud hole, is I have no 4 wheel drive. I engage to 4 high or 4 low and I get nothing. Dummy indicator light comes on in dash. After getting winched out I tried to engage while rolling and still nothing, but there is a slight noise in frontend while engaging. Any help on this would be helpful.

If your front driveshaft turns when in 4wd, then it's most likely the autohubs not engaging. I know one guy that had the fluid level get really low in the front differential, and 4wd came back when he refilled it (don't know what the problem was, other than binding). If you can't get the hubs to engage, it may be a good time to swap to manual locking hubs for durability. The autos crap out often. If the front shaft does not turn, check the shift linkage on the t-case. It's either not going into 4hi/4lo, or there's an internal problem.

Put your rig in 4WD
Get under it and see if you can turn the front drive shaft,
if not,
Jack your rig up and put all four corners on stands.
Put it in drive and see if your front axle shafts are
turning. You should be able to see them on the inside
of the wheels,
This is how I checked mine, I ended up converting to manual hubs
for about $80 and 2 hours. The grease in my auto locking hubs
had turned to clay. The autos dont have enough clearance to
engage if they arent kept almost perfect.
I suggest even if you find out your problem is elsewere to change over
anyway.

Thats not dented, It's customized

I was just curious to know if you had 4wd, but it quit when you got stuck and couldn't move? I know that if you are in 2wd, get stuck, then shift into 4hi/4lo, the autos will not engage until you move forward 8-10 feet. Totally useless if you can't move forward! There may not be anything wrong with your Bronco, unless it does not go into 4wd after moving forward. Then you can do the above mentioned checks.

These guys are right. But like Randy said your hubs need a few feet to engage so there may not be anything wrong. Another reason manuals suck.

The auto hubs should be clean, and bathed in a light coat of ATF. The oil is just to keep them from corroding.
