Hi everyone! I am desperate for some advice! I picked up a 90 full-size Bronco that was in great shape (or so I thought). The most recent problem which has me stumped is that when I start the truck, the motor races to 2500-3000 rpm and hangs there. Nothing appears to be stuck. When you drop it in gear, it returns to a reasonable 1000 rpm with the brake on. However, it feels like it cuts in and out (wants to die). Once in a while, when you start it, it runs fine but the "check engine light comes on". I am convinced that it is a sensor somewhere but have no idea where to look. If I cant fix this reasonably, it may have to go away. :-( Havent had a trouble free week yet! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

It could be the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve needs cleaning or is going bad. There's some posts at other Bronco/ Ford truck sites on cleaning this. If it gets some gunk in it it will stick. Try F150.net or FordTruckWorld. Hope that's all you need to fix!!!

Looks like that may have been it! I replaced the valve (better safe than sorry) and it ran a little rough at first but then smoothed out. Now it seems to be OK. Thanks for the advice! It is great when you have a "community" to back you!

Thanks again!
