Hi
There is a low rumble noise at very low speed like when moving in drive way
How ever it goes away above 5 MPH No oil leaks anywhere. Are these the same axles that are
in a 2003 P71?
We had a 2003 p71 and that had axel problems and made the same kind of noise but got
louder with speed and gear oil was all over the tire.
This seems to be coming from the differential but not sure as it also seems to be coming from
suspensions. I have had it on a lift and did not see anything that looked bad.
Any thoughts/
Thanks |

Check and make sure that you have the correct wheels/rims on your car as FORD had a problem with the axle bearings on certain models.
The problem occurred when they switched to the offset rims on the 17" wheels from the non-offset 16" wheels. The problem caused the axles to not be properly centered in the bearings/races and caused the exact symptoms you are describing.
You should be able to find the wheel size on the label in the drivers door jamb area, and then double check that against the size on the tires. Hope this helps. |

A 2003 does not have the same axle shafts as a 2006, they changed to a 31 spline rear in mid production year 2005(December 2004 production on).
There was a soft axle issue in 2003(across all panther platform vehicles) when Ford changed the axle shafts. |

Thanks so that problem of soft axle shafts is not solved in this 2006? |

this sound is hard to track down. It may be front suspension. Speed is 1 mhp to maybe 5 mph Then it gets hard to hear |

I found the source a little too much wear on the sway bar bushings. I have new bushings on the way
