Hello everyone!
I'm looking at an '87 Crown Vic here in Maine. It's low rust, which already gets my attention.
No start, looks like a fuel issue, I can handle that (I've got an '87 F150 and a box of EFI parts)--aside from pump, filter, clogged injectors or FPR, is there anything unusual about the '87s? I've never had much trouble from the F150 (had it for 14 years and it's now almost 400K miles, 5.0/C6/4x4)

What I'm really curious about is parts swapping.
I have an SN95 parts car (V6 convertible, rear end minor hit/rusted out trunk) and a bunch of old Fox Mercury parts. Do the seats swap? Rear disk brakes? Wheel offset? I've got a GREAT set of snow tires on the 17" SN95 wheels.

I'm thinking the Crown Vic could be a great winter sedan; it's not too rusty and I aim to keep it that way.

Thanks!
Ben

Do the seats swap?

Not direct, but you might be able to swap the stock tracks onto the Mustang seats.

Rear disk brakes?

Won't be a direct swap as far as I know, rear discs off a 1992-2002 Crown Victoria(Grand Marquis or Town Car) will bolt right on, then you need to modify the brake lines a bit to make them work.

Your '87 has 0 offset wheels and the Mustang has +30 offset, you'd need at least 1" spacers to ue those wheels. I used 1.5" spacers on my '89 for some Cobra wheels and they fit well.

Thanks! Sounds like I'll keep it closer to stock, then. Nothing wrong with drum brakes for the grocery-runner and I'd rather buy 15" tires than spacers.
Hopefully the interior isn't too bad--I haven't even looked at this car yet but the seller has been talking it up for a few days; I've got lots of Fox/SN95 stuff that I'll keep for my '79 Z7 project (I was looking at this car for the engine, but it seems too nice to break up, and I can drive it while I look for something more modern for the Z7).
I'll be back in a day or two with my impressions of the Crown Vic (which it turns out is actually a Grand Marquis), and hopefully a bit more info on what I can use (would Ranger rims or S197 Mustang? I have access to a few of those locally as well).

Update: The guy got it running and decided not to sell. Back to the engine search!

Aww bummer! The Fuel pump safety switch in these models are quite prone to dirty contacts! Some WD and cycling often starts an old dead panther.

hondaclf> I noticed your comment about SN95 wheels, and I am trying to mount the 07 spinners to my 87 Wagon as we speak. I came across the wheel spacer conundrum last night trying to mount the fronts. Are you using hubcentric spacers on your front? Still have info on them?

Thanks
Caleb
