Hi, to all. I have a 90' Bronco 5.8 / E4OD combo. I have read info on the net about late model 5.0 mustang guys removing the Air Pump (Thermactor) and in some cases eliminating the AC compressor and Tensioner Pulley.
I have read about the convertors overheating and thus burning out, I'm not to concerned about junking my convertors, unless we are talking about heat that could melt carpet or exhaust valves.
To clarify, my engine is stock (for now), I have an MSD 6A box and an MSD coil, March under-drive pulleys, an electric engine cooling fan, a true dual 2 1/2" exhaust from the stock manifolds through Flowmaster's exiting before each rear wheel, and I recently have been trying out the Resistor in the intake air temp plug/ignition advancing trick.
I have had the belt off and can very obviously see that spinning the Air-Pump by hand, well she's a HP sucker, not nearly the drag that the AC compressor is, but having converted several muscle cars to manual steering it got my to thinking.
So, what is the effect in detail of running a shorter belt and circumventing the Air-Pump (Thermactor) ????
Obviously, going around the AC compressor would be a winter only HP mod.
Just curious what you kids had to say on this one.
Anyone tried it????
I will call local late model Mustang shops to see what they've experienced.
