Does anyone know of any transmission kits for a 1988 xlt 5.8 3 speed bronco? I have hurd of one that makes one of the gears into something close to that of an overdrive gear ratio. Or does anyone else know of any good ways to get a little better fuel economy? One more quick thing, does anyone know what the speed range in 4 wheel drive is, the manual says 4wheel low is no more then 25, but what is 4wheel high's limit. Ps i just bought this bronco, and i am in the learning stages due to only knowing about chevy's. I own a corvette but i have always loved the 80's bronco's. |

I think B&M makes a shift kit for the AOD but I'm not positive. As far as giving it a "new gear" I don't think so. To do that you would have to open up the tranny.
25mph is absolute tops for 4low. The only time when you need 4low is rockcrawling thick mud, or snowplowing. You shouldn't need to go much more than 10mph when in that gear. 4hi you can go much faster. I don't know what the dealer says but I run mine at 45 sometimes. Again though if you are going that speed 4wd isn't going to do much for you. In theory I don't see why you couldn't go 65. I drive with my hubs locked all winter and hit 70 or even faster at times. Mileage drops a bit and the front end wears faster but there is no other issues with it.
