I am trying to shake out the bugs in a 92 CV. The car has been sitting for over 2 years and not started in the past year. When I started it for the 1st time it blew rust out of the exhaust pipe for almost 30 mins. The performance was very poor, no torque, and misfiring. I have only put a 100 mile on the car since starting it. This morning I was driving it and I decided to floor it. looking for smoke or something..... BANG! I hear a sound from under the car on the drivers side and the cabin filled with a wierd smelling smoke, and became very loud. A converter blew up. I took it a muffler shop to confirn my Suspicions, they quoted me $1500 for the complete system. They wanted 580.00 per cat. After I finished laughing I left.

Question:
1. Since I'm replacing the whole system what performance system do you guys recommend for this car?
2. Should I put the factory cats back on, or investigate something else?
3. Who has good prices on Ford parts? I thought $580 was a bit much for 1 cat.

Thanks in advance

Lyndon,

Summit Racing sells high-flow converters for about $50/ea. If you go in with your exhaust system removed, any compitent exhaust shop should be able to build a custom exhaust system for about $300 (not including mufferls) and if you supply the converters. I personally recommend flowmaster mufflers but it would depend what kind of sound you are looking to achieve with a new exhaust system.

If your engine is stock, I would stick with 2.25" dual exhaust. Mufflers will run $50-80/ea.

[Thanks Eric,
Would a Hi flow cat get me through emissions and would it be stock length? I already have a quick Impala and I know 1 performance mod leads to another.]
