Suddenly, my rear window will not go down. It would go up, but not down. Im guessing that it is a switch problem, so where should i start looking. Tailgate or dash switch?

If the window still goes up, but not down, then the window motor is still OK. Out of curiosity, how have you gotten it to go down? By hand?
It's probably a switch issue -- get a replacement switch and go from there. The tailgate motor is a pain in the butt to replace/work on!

My window (1995) wouldn't go up or down last weekend so I tore the whole thing apart and found no problems. After finding no problems, I put it all back together and it started operating. I decided (unfortunately too late) to look at the wiring schematic and saw where there is a safety switch in the tailgate that prevents the window from moving if the tailgate isn't closed completely. Apparently, I just didn't shut the tailgate hard enough so I wasted a whole weekend. If you can't check the tailgate to ensure that it is tightly closed, I would suggest using a 12 volt transformer or a battery to lower the window manually by using reverse polarity. After you get the window down, drop the tailgate and slam it back. Reconnect the window motor plug wire and test the window. If this doesn't work, but your window does go down manually, it may be the safety switch in the tailgate. |
