I was wondering if it is possible or to much work to swap out a 302 fuel injected with a 351c carburated with a c-6 tranny. Is this asking for trouble or is it possible without spending a fortune to do???????????? |

What vehicle are you doing the swap in? The 351 will give you more torque, but depending on what your goals are, you may be able to spend less money and get similar performance from your 302. It also depends how old your 302 is... if it's starting to age a little bit, and you may have to do a rebuild soon anyway, then it might be worth it. Can't go wrong with more cubes

It is going in a 1988 Bronco the 302 has 130000 and a rear main leak so sooner or later it is coming out. I drive the bronco daily to and from work and offroad occasionally |

Did you ever bolt a Cleveland to a 302 trans? 351C will bolt to 360-390 trans. |

I have bolted a transmission from a 302 to a 351C as they are both small blocks and have the same bolt pattern. The 351M and 400 both have big block bolt patterns. With all the parts available for 302/351 windsor and engine assemblies available why not go to a complete assembly. You can't rebuild one for what you can buy one for, especially when you consider all factors involved. |

Yeah, I have to agree with Mr. Lawrence here... a 351W will definately be an easier replacement and give you more options if you aren't already in possession of a 351c. Like he said, the 351 is basically a 302. Only difference is a longer stroke for more torque. And trucks love torque . Plus, there are a lot of aftermarket parts widely available for the 351w, since it's such a common engine to swap into 79-93 mustangs.

Just a couple quick things about a 302 to 351W swap.
The blocks are not the same.
The 351W is taller due to the longer stroke, also making it wider at the top.
Because of that, intakes will not interchange.
Distributors are different as well. 351W has a longer shaft.
Oil pans are also different, due to the different main bearing size.
With all that....what will interchange?
Actually, not much.
Cams, as long as you use the correct firing order.
Most external accesories I.E., water pump, fuel pump(mechanical),
alternator, power steering, valve covers....
IIRC, the motor mounts for the 302 will work for a 351W in a Bronco.
As mentioned before, the tranny will bolt up with no problems,
but you need to use a 351W flywheel.
