I'm writing a book on the topic of Ford Mercury drag cars 1960-70. I am seeking stories and photos of these cars from that era. I would particularly enjoy receiving photos/stories of the big Fords and Mercurys (Galaxies-Marauders)there are plenty of photos and information available on the "factory" cars, but I must depend on individuals for the grass roots material. Of particular interest is the 1963 Merc Marauder driven by Tom Sturm. Any help would be greatly appreciated and duly credited.

Charlie,
I have a collection of old car magazines from around 1964-1973, mostly Hot Rod, Car Craft, Rod & Custom, and Super Stock. They have alot of articles on racing, and I do remember seeing some great photos of Ford drag cars in them. I can look through them and see what I have. What would be the best way to get them to you? After I find the pictures, I'll have to get to a scanner or copier to send them. There's bound to be alot of pictures in them. Let me know where you're located...maybe we can find an easier way to do this.

Charlie,

I would recommend checking out the members that belong to the following two sites:

http://www.fordmuscle.com
http://www.lovefords.org
http://www.fordfe.com

The member base at FordMuscle.com are mainly early musclecar guys and they'll be able to give you a lot of information. LOVEFords.org are less performance oriented and more collector oriented. FordFE.com is discussion all about the FE powerplant that was commonly found in the full-size Fords of that era. My '67 Galaxie has a 390 FE. You'll find plenty of people at FordFE.com that know their stuff and will have been around to give you the informatin you need.

Good luck with your writings and keep us updated.
