I had my 302 rebuilt , 9:1 compression ,Comp extream energy cam, port matched, balanced etc. I know the compression is a little low but I didn't want to have any issues about fuel. Some places I've gone I'm lucky to get clean 87. Ive had the dist recurved but this thing is still not there. I'll be doing about 75mph at about 2800 rpm , and come to a grade and drop about 9 mph. I thought it should do a little better than this. I think my last resort is to advance the cam. Has anyone done this with success?? I've heard good and bad about this. Any outher ideas ???.
Thanks for the help. |

Well you could install a supercharger raising the compression ratio and still get the fuel miles too, Cost about $2500.
I know just a suggestion.
Advancing the cam will bring the piston closer to the valves when opened, being I do not know your cam height and the setup of the motor internals, can not say to do that, why - because if you reach out and put some ooooo on it - you can get the valve to (what is called float) and with the advanved cam, your pistons can come in contact with the valves (not good). |
