BG 1356's? whats the story on these little babies? tough or junk? what happened to the floor shifter? i liked that shifter in the floor!! where'd they put the dang thang? any way to go back to a floor shifter in a 95 or so 5.8L?
are there options for the elec. shift vs. the floor shift?
in other words, i'm looking at a 95 tomorrow. will it have the floor shift or the elec shift? which is better? whatever you guys can give me would be awesome.
thanks.

I would rather have the FLOOR shifter,
I have a 95XLT 5.8lt with a BW 1356 and the Dash button.
If you go through this forum section, you can tell just how
many of us have had problems with it, Not all of us, But many,
myself included,
I believe you have much more control over a manual
shifting T-Case, less wiring and silly noids to F up
Thats not dented, It's customized |

I think the manual/floor shift can only be had on a Custom model, and the XL/XLT versions have the electronic shift, on 88+ year models. Both are B-W 13-56, and you can swap to manual with the correct bracket and shift linkage and the t-case from a donor truck. My opinion, the electric/push button doo-dad was just another high-dollar add-on that gives way more trouble than any convenience it offers, kinda like auto-locking hubs. Are we too lazy to shift a lever or turn a hub lock? Sorry for the rant & rage, I just believe in the K.I.S.S. principle. |

I have a 96 xlt that has the floor shift transfer case. I agree the push button has to many problems. I think it was a option for the eddie bauers and a option for the xlts but not all xlts have the push button transfer case. |

That'd be a Borg Warner 13-56 transfer case. A great unit, the only issues with them are the aluminum drain plugs in that magnesium housing.
The manual shift and electric shift are the same units. There's a boss on the back of the manual ones where the motor would mount if electric.
Manual can be found. You'll need all the linkage, including the shifter. Get all the mounting hardware as well. It's goin g to be an expensive proposition. The manual BW 13-56 are VERY popular. 2.71 low range in stock form is why the slush boxes do well off road.
Find any shift linkage off of any Ford manual case behind a like transmission. Buy the linkage and then find a manual BW 13-56. All you'll need to do is shorten the shift bar and drill a hole in it.
