SUV owners, if you haven't already, read this article:
http://www.superford.org/news/showarticle.php?id=1004
I will continue to drive my Excursion. However, it is my opinion that SUV drivers probably don't drive as safely as people in cars, which could be a possibility for these rollovers. Maybe it's because they have the illusion of being invincible when they drive larger vehicles? Regardless, the odds of being in a rollover are far less than being in a general accident. I would rather be in my Excursion than my wife's Cavalier if someone were to hit me. Common sense would suggest that you have better odds of walking away from an Excursion than a Cavalier in any type of serious accident. My $0.02.

Typical Beauracrat speech !!!
Don't you know by now that you can make statistics say anything you want and/or
back any position you care to defend???
I know in the case of statistical analysis software I wrote and reported with SAS that if they didn't like the "random average" that I came up with, they'd just ask me to run another "random" sample...
I could not convince "them" that if it was a purely random sample with true averages then the numbers would come out the SAME !!! And, DARN, don't you know that "stupid " computer would give us the same average each time within a few hundredths !?!? Go Figure !?!
So to help with our IT groups workload, I told them we could save a lot of processing on millions of records if they would just tell me what number they wanted to see, to heck with all these calculations !!!
It's laughable sometimes!

Haha
It seems like an unusual war to begin. If only everybody would buy just what they needed and not what they wanted!

My 2000 Kia Sportage was said to be a death trap in a rollover too. Although I understand that an "accodent" could happen at any time. Any time you get behind the wheel of your auto (in this case the SUV) you are at risk of causing or being involved in a crash (including rolling it). That is why the Auto MFGs test them for safety. The test results don't lie, but they test these vehicle in extreem situations. Frankly, I would rather be in an Excursion than in my kia if I was faced with the option.
Keep safe!! |

There really is NO rollover danger for any car unless you are a smart driver. Jeeps are the most prone to rollover because of the short wheelbase with a high center of gravity. Only stupid people roll them. They take 90 degree turns at 30 mph and flip their jeep. On any SUV that you take a turn at 30 you flip the car. Duh! |

I will say this, Take a box and put it on the ground now try and roll it over, Now take a Re-tangle (Smiling) and put it on the ground and try and roll it over.
My point is this, yes you can widen the SUV's making them less prone to rollovers and more boxy, but in a accident even a box will tumble.
OMG - Please do not put Air Bags above my head either, Have you all ever had one of them things hit you in the chest, black and blue marks from hell with broken rib (This was from a Drunk freind that hit the front bumper with a slug hammer and the Air Bag went off), I can not imagine what one of them Air Bags would do to my Head, No thanks I will install my own Roll Bars which I do in all my vehicles and all should have done if this was a issue to begin with I also installed a 5 point harness to hold me in that seat and believe this I would wear a helmut too.
Look, When everone go's off road are they doing 50-80mph, no one - that I know of -that would like to live for along time any way and if they do - they protect themselfs from most everthing they can, So what is the point here we trying to protect people from themselfs again ?. |

Do we have another failed phsyician in a job he's not cut out for? We here in Oregon we suffered under the misrule of another ER doc who pitched his education and took up politics, much to the detriment of his "patients". |
